Config Workshop

A safe, searchable, Forge-native configuration editor for Minecraft.

Config Workshop turns configuration specifications registered through Minecraft Forge into clear in-game editing screens. Browse configs from one dashboard, search deeply across their settings, inspect the rules declared by each mod, and save valid changes without manually editing TOML files.

Alpha notice: This release supports loaded CLIENT and COMMON ForgeConfigSpec files. SERVER configs are visible but intentionally locked until secure, operator-authorized server synchronization is available.

Why use Config Workshop?

Config Workshop is intentionally focused on the standard Forge configuration system. Mods do not need to adopt a replacement config library, and the editor does not guess at unknown files.

It works from registered ForgeConfigSpec metadata so types, validation rules, defaults, comments, and restart flags remain visible and meaningful.

This approach keeps the experience predictable:

• Invalid input is rejected before saving.
• Existing custom config screens are preserved.
• Unsupported custom IConfigSpec implementations are ignored cleanly.
• Backups and save failures remain visible instead of being hidden.

Supported editions

Install the JAR matching your exact Minecraft version. Do not use the 26.2 file on 1.21.11, or the 1.21.11 file on 26.2.

Installation

1. Install the matching Minecraft Forge version.
2. Download the Config Workshop JAR for your Minecraft version.
3. Place the JAR in the instance's mods folder.
4. Start Minecraft and open Mods → Config Workshop → Config.

No additional mod library is required.

Client and server use

Config Workshop is currently a client-side mod. Dedicated servers do not need to install it.

Remote server configuration editing is not included in this alpha, so server-owned configuration files are displayed as locked.

Current alpha limitations

• Remote SERVER config editing is not implemented.
• Custom configuration specifications that do not use ForgeConfigSpec are not edited.
• Scalar lists use a comma-separated editor.
• The interface currently includes English translations only.
• Broad real-world compatibility and GUI testing is still in progress.

Please report bugs with your Minecraft version, Forge version, affected mod, steps to reproduce, and the relevant latest.log.

License and attribution

Config Workshop is independently implemented and released under the MIT License. Its source code and visual identity are original.

The project was informed by the public behavior and documentation of Forge Config Screens, Configured, and the public Minecraft Forge configuration APIs.

No upstream artwork, branding, mod IDs, or bundled mod classes are included.
