ScalableLux Backport

ScalableLux Backport brings lighting engine optimizations inspired by modern Minecraft optimization mods to Minecraft 1.16.5 Fabric.

This mod focuses on improving the performance of block and chunk light updates, especially in situations with frequent lighting changes such as:

Large redstone contraptions
Fast block updates
Dynamic light-heavy builds
Chunk loading/unloading
Modded environments with many light sources

The goal is to reduce the CPU cost of Minecraft's vanilla lighting engine and help improve frame stability and server performance in older versions of the game.

About the Backport

This project is inspired by the ideas and optimizations used in modern lighting optimization mods such as ScalableLux, adapted specifically for Minecraft 1.16.5.

Because Minecraft 1.16.5 uses an older engine and mapping environment, some implementations differ from newer versions. The focus of this backport is maintaining stability and compatibility while bringing over as many useful optimizations as possible.

Not every feature from the original project may be present, but the core goal remains the same: reducing the performance impact of Minecraft's lighting engine.

Why?

Optimization support for older Minecraft versions has slowed down significantly over time, despite many players and modpacks continuing to use versions like 1.16.5.

This project exists to help keep older versions performant and enjoyable by bringing newer optimization concepts back to legacy environments.
